Another of my favourite projects was based on a visit to Florence which was very inspirational. I fell in love with the amazing churches and based by Skirt project on the things I photographed and drew.

Also I discovered Reverse Applique – a technique which is still a favourite so you can be sure that in my future work I will be creating new Reverse Applique items, using my naturally-dyed fabrics and inspired by buildings and landscapes.

30 Artists, 30 Days, £30K

PS Arts’, Datchworth, project to reproduce a giant sized replica of Katharina Kubrick’s Maria’s Vase is progressing well.  Throughout June 30 local artists will be completing one section of the artwork in their own style and media, £10 raffle tickets will be sold with the winner receiving the completed masterpiece.

Today Hazel and I were producing our sections (top corners) whilst the local Brownies were making and selling sunflowers and we had a steady flow of interested visitors. Suspect they were attracted by Sarah’s delicious Lemon Drizzle Cake as much as by the art.Visitors were also able to see other work by the artists involved in the project

Here is my piece added to the work in progress – it is a reverse applique made from naturally dyed, layered cottons. I can’t wait to see it in pride of place in the top right corner of the finished picture – all will be revealed next Sunday.

We are happy to share this wonderful piece of work by textile artist “Joanne Bowes” which will be the DLDD Facebook cover photo fer the next 7 days….

“Here is my picture (reverse applique) of Priory Church.

I am a Textile Artist who worked and studied at Dunstable (Central Beds) College/University of Bedfordshire and am very keen to see Dunstable achieve a higher and more profitable profile.

I think that Priory is one of our finest assets and that Dunstable has a very strong artistic heritage. This is a great opportunity to celebrate our history and our local talent.

I hope that we will be able to capitalise on our local creative talent as the Master Plan develops and Dunstable becomes recognised as an exciting place to live, work and shop.
